Naik has remained a loyal worker of the BJP, however, his resignation comes as a shock to the party. Interestingly, he had extended his support to Utpal Parrikar, who is contesting Independent from Panjim constituency where he was denied ticket by the BJP.

Last year, BJP had cracked a whip on Naik and removed him from the position of party spokesperson for indiscipline. Naik had openly extended support to Independent candidates against the BJP panel floated by incumbent Panjim MLA in the corporation elections.
