CANACONA: Canacona residents and businesses are facing significant challenges as the Indian postal service has come to a standstill, leaving parcels undelivered for the past 10 days. The delay has particularly impacted those expecting Diwali gifts and local businesses awaiting crucial deliveries.
Residents and businesspersons in Canacona have expressed their dismay, pointing out that parcels dispatched from various locations have been lingering in transit. Gurudas Gaonkar, a Palolem businessman, highlighted the discrepancy where parcels reach Margao within three days from Delhi but remain undelivered and pending at the Margao office.
Despite numerous complaints lodged over the past week, the Indian Post authorities have yet to address the problem, causing substantial inconvenience and financial losses for the affected individuals and businesses.
Enquiries at the Canacona Post Office revealed that the delay originates from the Margao office, where parcels have been held up for the past nine days.
The Head Office of Post in Panjim clarified that the Margao sorting office falls under the Miraj division and not the Goa division. Inspector of Posts Rahul Jadhav acknowledged the surge in parcels due to the Diwali festival over the last eight to ten days and attributed the delays to the increased volume. He assured that the problem would be resolved shortly.
The prolonged delays in parcel deliveries have not only sparked panic among the general public but have also inflicted financial losses on local businesses. Residents urgently call for swift intervention to rectify the matter and ensure seamless parcel deliveries to Canacona.
Prasad Dessai, a resident of Canacona, pointed out that since tourism season has just commenced, business persons from the coastal belt order things from abroad for the foreign visitors. “This delay in services has been a disaster and the insensitivity of India post has badly affected the small business persons here,” Desai said.
