VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), on Tuesday, seized three tempo loads of vegetables and fruits that were kept by vendors in an encroached area in the Vasco vegetable market. The MMC also removed tarpaulin sheets and illegal stalls from the market.
“It is very disappointing that the market vendors are not cooperating. When we last visited the market, we noticed that most vendors were keeping their goods outside the stalls, which were left vacant. We had requested them to remove all encroachments within two days, but the violation continued. We were left with no option but to seize the goods. Another reason to clear the encroachments was to make the market road motorable. We have begun to tar the road so that people visiting the market do not face hardships,” said MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik.
He added, “We have also decided to keep a team of municipal inspectors at the market till 7 pm to keep a check on illegal encroachments there.”
