PANJIM: Director Industries Swetika Sachan on Monday said that in Goa data layers on important assets pertaining to education, tourism, public distribution system, agriculture and others are being mapped under the PM Gati Shakti programme.
Addressing a press conference, Sachan said that Goa has developed a GIS-based State masterplan with 99 data layers that will be used for holistic infrastructure planning in the State. “We have mapped total 99 data layers, including 32 of the 33 mandatory layers that were to be mapped on the State GIS portal. These data layers that are mapped on the portal are part of the State masterplan and can be used for any sort of planning,” she said.

Sachan said that ground truthing is still underway for various departments to verify the data that has been mapped to ensure reliability. “Goa has rationalised the locations of schools by mapping them on the Gati Shakti platform and seeing how they could bring about better spatial distribution of schools,” the Director said adding that State has also used the platform to map the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns in Goa and then cut down on transportation costs.
“We are now working on mapping agriculture clusters,” she said. The Directorate of Information and Technology, Goa has also proposed to map all the tourist spots under the programme to review the footfalls and help tourists to identified places and locations.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has identified 30 data layers such as land records, economic zones, forests, wildlife, roads, power, revenue, soil types and other data points, which need to be included in the State masterplans and the National Master Plan platform.
