MARGAO: The Margao municipality and SGPDA officials Thursday afternoon carried out a joint inspection of the wholesale fish market in Fatorda.
The officials have decided to clean the area including the drain. This inspection was based on the directions given to the departments by the High Court in the morning during the PIL hearing filed by Sanjeev Raiturkar.
The court has accepted the apology of the Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik for not responding to the notices sent to him.
“The court has directed us to show that we are serious about the matter. Based on these instructions, we conducted the inspection at the wholesale fish market,” Naik said.
Naik informed that they also inspected the Chicken market block in the complex. They observed that the area is very filthy and unhygienic, and added that they would take necessary action to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the area.
Later at around 4 pm, the Margao municipality inspectors conducted the routine anti-encroachment drive in the fruit and vegetable section in the SGPDA retail market. A truck full of goods, including crates, fruits, tender coconuts, and vegetables were seized.
The inspector informed that the perishable goods will be given to the orphanage and old age home. They would continue the drive on Friday as a measure to prevent vendors from encroaching on the footpath and passages of the market complex.
