PANJIM: Against the backdrop of the ongoing debate on bullfights, the All Goa Bull Owners’ Association has demanded that the government legalise dhirios.
Addressing the media on Saturday, association president Simon Caido said, “The ban should be lifted on bullfights. It should be legalised. If the government-formed committee to decide whether or not to legalise the sport, comes up with safety guidelines we are willing to abide by them.”
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had recently said that his government would take a decision on the matter after receiving suggestions from the House Committee headed by St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh.
He had also said that health and safety will be of paramount importance, and that all measures for safety would be adopted so that bullfights do not attract any penal provisions under existing laws.
The association has also asked the State government to build a Goa Sadan at Vailankanni considering the increasing number of Goan pilgrims visiting the town.
