BELGAUM: Close proximity to Goa and an easy connectivity with the Mormugao Port Trust has given a major boost to industries in Belgaum region, after a delegation from Canada visited Belgaum on Thursday and evinced interest to promote business in Belgaum.
The Canadian delegation, headed by Canadian Trade Commissioner D P Vithal Nath and industrialist A L Deepak, was in Belgaum to explore collaboration opportunities for Canadian companies with Belgaum-based companies.
The Canadian delegation, which also included representatives from various sectors including aerospace, ICT, life science, clean tech and education sector had a meeting with members of various sectors in trade and commerce at the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
Stating that Canada has a population of 3.5 crore and is three times the geographic size of India, Trade Commissioner Vithal Nath said 25% of the world’s fresh water resources and 75% of the world’s paper comes from Canada.
He also emphasized on dynamism and growth of trade and industry with India and appealed to industrialists and traders of the Belgaum region to take advantage of Canadian collaboration opportunities, as Canadians are seriously looking to the Indian market.
With its proximity to Goa, Canadian business houses are also looking to Belgaum as a model city of the region and hence intend to extend maximum support to Belgaum District for development.
Joint Director of Industries A B Paraddi highlighted the potential of Belgaum industries to the delegation. Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries Chairperson Satish Tendolkar, who presided over the meeting, emphasized the enhanced facilities for export of goods at Goa’s MPT, as was recently assured by MPT authorities.
