MARAGO: More than a fortnight after it was launched to fight scrapping of the proposed Mopa airport, Goans for Dabolim Only is bracing up to take the movement across Salcete villages and down South Goa.
Beginning from Sunday, the organization will hold around 17 meetings in the next 10 days, culminating in a massive meeting at the historic Lohia Maidan on May 15.
In Salcete, meetings are planned in the villages of Curtorim, Nuvem, Benaulim, Assolna, Cuncolim, Chinchinim, Loutolim, Verna, Betalbatim, Sao Jose de Areal, Cavelossim, Navelim and Raia. Meetings will also be held at Cortalim, Vasco, Quepem and Canacona during the next 10 days.
Goans for Dabolim Only had its first meeting at Cansaulim earlier this week, setting the stage for a sustained movement against the proposed airport at Mopa.
At the meeting, Convenor Fr Eremito Rebello had dared both BJP and Congress, besides Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar for an open debate on the sustainability of two airports in Goa. He has conveyed a message loud and clear to the rulers that experts have ruled out the sustainability of the two airports, while demanding scrapping of the proposed Mopa airport.
Incidentally, at the Cansaulim meeting, the president of the Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott, Agnelo Rodrigues thundered that it is a lie that late Matanhy Saldanha had supported Mopa airport. “Matanhy had submitted a charter of demands to Parrikar before joining the BJP. One of the demands was the scrapping of the Mopa airport”, he asserted.
