Despite being aware of the pros and cons of helmets the transport director is bent on tickling the public with a fresh attempt at imposing helmets. If teenagers are dying according to the statistics collected, try to determine the root cause. Maybe the authority issuing licenses is not competent to gauge if these teens are able to ride or the tests administered are too lenient. If a rider is not competent to ride, how does a helmet save him and the others on the road as a result of his/her immaturity? This seems to be a money-spinner for the government and the police, which is always an annual feature capitalizing on our road-sense ignorant riders. Is the government getting more adamant year by year despite the Goan people rejection of this move?

Are only those not wearing helmets the ones who die in accidents?
The Transport Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar and the Director of Transport will not rest in peace unless and until the use of helmets is made compulsory for riders and pillion riders on all the roads. They do not understand the difficulties of carrying two helmets where ever riders go, simply because they travel by cars and not two-wheelers. The number of deaths reported by Transport Director Arun Dessai is not due to non use of helmets. Who says that riders do not die by using helmets? Most of the deaths occurred on roads due to defying the traffic rules, such as overtaking, rash driving, using mobiles while driving/riding, using full light at night, etc. Dessai should stop this by fining them heavily.
