On Saturday, a partial collapse occurred at the SLBC tunnel in Telangana. Nagarkunool Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Gaikwad reported that there is currently no communication with the eight workers trapped beneath the debris. “We are awaiting a report from a team from the National Geophysical Research Institute regarding the soil’s stability, and we hope that the roboscope team will be able to capture some visuals from the precise location tonight,” Gaikwad stated. He also noted that experts from various parts of the country have been contacted for support. “While ventilation and lighting are sufficient for the last 50 meters, the significant challenge lies beyond that point. We are unable to disturb the collapsed area,” the Superintendent of Police remarked.

A large-scale rescue operation is currently in progress, involving approximately 300 trained personnel. This includes 128 members from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 120 from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), 23 from Singareni Collieries, and 24 from the Army, all working to free the individuals who are trapped. Rescuers have successfully penetrated over 13 kilometers into the tunnel; however, the presence of water and debris in the subsequent few hundred meters has hindered their access to the trapped individuals. Additionally, a team of rat miners, previously deployed for the Silkyara tunnel rescue in Uttarakhand, has been incorporated into the rescue efforts to assist in extricating the workers trapped beneath the collapsed section of the tunnel.
