PANJIM: A woman while being taken to hospital in a 108 ambulance gave birth to a baby girl on Tuesday morning.
The patient Malathi Devi started getting labour pains, ambulance staff Vinod Kumar Tiwari helped her deliver the baby girl with no complications as the ambulance was on the way from Curtorim to Hospicio hospital in Margao. Devi was taken to Hospicio and the mother and newborn are doing well.
“The patient was already in labour pains on arrival and upon shifting to the ambulance and on examination of the patient it was seen that PV was leaking and crowning was seen after which the ambulance stopped and delivery was conducted in the ambulance and the female baby was delivered,” GVK-EMRI 108 head of operations Purti Patkar said.
She added, “This is the second delivery in 108 ambulances while another delivery was conducted at home.”
The mother and the child are admitted at Hospicio hospital. As per the medical staff the vitals of the new born baby girl and her mother are stable.
