PANJIM: The BJP in Goa virtually launched its 2014 General Elections campaign Saturday, with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar meeting voters of his Panjim Constituency, distributing the BJP charge list of sins of omission and commission of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance II and putting up stickers in houses, as BJP cadres led by their leaders fanned out all over the State, in a mass contact programme on its foundation day.
“May be it is a small beginning for the Parliament elections,” Dr Wilfred Mesquita, vice president of the party conceded, admitting that they are expecting elections in October-November and they have been asked to be ready by the party’s central leadership, given the state of the UPA II coalition.
“We are expecting elections earlier ~ maybe October-November,” Dr Mesquita said, putting in words what has been in the minds of many over the past month or so.
The BJP is looking at contacting at least 1,70,000 houses all over the State and stickers have been given to workers to be given to every household and signatures to be taken from the people they meet.
The BJP top brass said that they are looking as far as possible at a “uniform distribution” all over the 40 constituencies and all leaders ~ including ministers and MLAs had been directed to work at booth and ward levels.
