What’s worse is that the issue has been raised at several gram sabhas in the past following which, resolutions have been sent to Kadamba Transport Corporation as the local residents are forced to bear the brunt during peak hours, afternoons, Sundays and public holidays.
The school and college bound students have expressed their deep anguish over having to rely on a few buses to take them to their educational institutes and said it would provide them much relief if only the frequency of buses were increased.
They added that the situation is terrible on Saturdays as well. Most of the working class residents have their own vehicles but there are many still who are dependent on the buses.
The panchayats have written to the KTC to run buses from Guirdolim to Margao in the mornings and Margao to Guirdolim in the afternoons and evenings but in vain. They have further requested that more buses be introduced on this route or as an alternative buses from other routes should be diverted through Chandor.
Sources with KTC said that were was an apprehension that the introduction of public buses on village routes would be a problem for the private bus operators and added that this was a non-profit route.
The residents have, however, demanded that the director of transport and KTC chairman take the panchayats into confidence as easy access to public transport is a right to the public.
