PERNEM: Morjim villagers raised serious concerns over the increasing number of mobile towers in the village at the gram sabha on Sunday.
Indignant that mobile towers are being installed in their localities without their consent, the villagers were sought to know from the sarpanch whether the panchayat was getting any revenue from these towers.
The gram sabha also took note of the indiscriminate throwing of garbage in the village with some members alleging that previously the trend was witnessed only along the beach, but now it has moved to the village roads. The village roads are littered with garbage, the members complained.
To a question from a gram sabha member as to what initiative the panchayat has taken to collect house hold garbage, panch informed that panchayat “will be distributing garbage bags to every household and the same will be collected once a week.”
The villagers slammed that panchayat for not stopping the increasing number of illegal constructions in the village.
The attention of the gram sabha was drawn to the poor condition of the local sports ground with members alleging that the previous panchayat body failed to repair the same for many years. Later, the villagers demanded that the sports ground be repaired and renovated immediately.
People also raised their concern that many of the speed breakers remained unpainted after the wearing off of the white stripes. The members complained that in the absence of white stripes on speed breakers, motorists were finding it difficult to notice them especially during the night. Thereafter, the gram sabha passed a resolution calling for repainting of speed breakers with white stripes.
The locals also raised their concern over safety of a footbridge at Mayekar waddo and demanded that it be repaired before any untoward incident takes palce.
Finally, the members demanded that the panchayat prepare a list of all the development projects it proposes to take up in the next five years and display the same on notice board for the benefit of the peoples.
