PANJIM: The recent tenant verification drive has resulted into over 55,000 tenant verifications recorded in October in the North Goa district.

A total of one lakh tenant verifications were completed in the North Goa district during last 10 months, informed SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
Porvorim police station tops the list with 20,000 tenant verifications this year and half of that done in last month alone. Calangute police station with 18,000 police verifications was second and Old Goa police station with 12,000 police verification was third in receiving police verifications during the current year.
The tenant verifications reported at other police stations are Bicholim- 9516, Mapusa- 8933, Panjim- 7000, Saligao- 5392, Colvale-4723, Anjuna- 4461, Valpoi- 4051, Pernem- 1917,
Mopa- 1830, Agasaim- 1631 and Mandrem- 1243.
“A record-breaking 55,026 tenant verifications were completed within October month, making this one of the highest figures for tenant verifications conducted in a single month. To date, over one lakh tenants have been verified in North Goa district alone,” SP Kaushal said.
“This achievement is due to the extraordinary efforts of our police station staff, who have diligently worked to ensure the safety and security of the district. Tenant verification is a crucial tool in maintaining law and order, as it helps identify individuals with potential criminal backgrounds who may otherwise reside in our communities undetected. Verifying tenants allows law enforcement to establish accountability, creating a safer environment for residents,” he said.
Currently, the police are verifying the backgrounds of all these individuals, with appropriate actions taken against those with dubious histories. Additionally, reports are being submitted to Deputy Collectors for householders who have rented their premises without proper verification. This step reinforces accountability among property owners, discouraging the facilitation of unverified tenancy.
The police verification process will continue in view of the ongoing tourist season and upcoming events like the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and St Francis Xavier Exposition. Intensified tenant verification drives are planned to address the unique security challenges that accompany these events. Increased vigilance through tenant verification will not only ensure the safety of local residents but also provide a secure environment for visitors.
This massive tenant verification drive launched in October following instructions from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar, IPS, will continue in future, the police said.
