Margao group lodges complaint against two hotels

MARGAO: The New Market Traders Association (NMTA) has lodged a complaint against two hotels near Pimplakatta, Margao for discharging sewage water in a gutter and well, and for using polluted water to prepare food.

The complaint against Poonam Hotel and Prasad Cafe has been filed with Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), the Health Department and Margao Municipal Council (MMC). NMTA criticised the MMC and Health Department for not taking action despite numerous complaints and threatened to close down the establishments themselves.
In the complaint, NMTA alleged that Poonam Hotel is discharging sewage in the gutter, which was contaminating the nearby well. The other hotel Prasad Cafe has been charged with using polluted water from the well to prepare food.
The Health Department and MMC have inspected these violations before, but haven’t taken them seriously. NMTA President Vinod Shirodkar said, “This time we won’t spare any one if action isn’t taken.”
