The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) announced on Sunday that Kannada actress Harshavardhini Ranya, also known as Ranya Rao, who was apprehended for gold smuggling from Dubai, had been granted land for the establishment of a steel plant by the former government in February 2023.

The board responded to reports indicating that a company associated with the actor was granted 12 acres of industrial land by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) in 2023. Recognizing the potential political implications of the situation, the office of Minister for Medium and Large Industries M. B. Patil disseminated the government’s final notification, issued on February 22, 2023, concerning the land allocation to Ranya’s company, Ksiroda India, located in the Sira Industrial Area of Tumakuru district. The Congress party assumed power following its victory over the BJP in the Karnataka Assembly elections held in May 2023.
The proceedings from the Karnataka government, as shared by the minister’s office, stated, “Approval has been granted for the proposal from M/s Ksiroda India Private Limited to establish a facility for the production of ‘steel products – TMT bars, rods, and related items’ in the Sira Industrial Area, Tumakuru district.”
The government has expressed its satisfaction in granting in-principle approval for the investment proposal amounting to Rs 138 crore, which is expected to create approximately 160 job opportunities, along with various infrastructure support, incentives, and concessions. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) indicated that the land allocation to the company associated with Rao occurred in January 2023. On Sunday, KIADB CEO Mahesh stated that Ksiroda India was allocated 12 acres of land on January 2, 2023, by the preceding government, which was led by the BJP.
Mahesh further noted that the land, situated in the Sira Industrial Area of Tumakuru district, received approval for allotment during the 137th State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) meeting held on the same day, while the previous government was still in office.
