PANJIM: A day after he sprung a surprise by arriving in the Assembly to present the Budget, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar shocked the bureaucracy by beginning to clear files from his Dona Paula residence.
Parrikar was admitted in Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital for “mild pancreatitis” on February 15 and as per sources his medical condition is quite serious.
However, the Chief Minister, despite his illness, arrived in Goa on Friday and was driven to the Assembly where he presented the Budget and even asked bureaucrats to start sending files for approvals.
Sources said that doctors at Lilavati Hospital advised Parrikar complete rest for a few days and not to communicate or come in contact with anyone, as he could contract infections.
The Chief Minister is staying with his family at his Dona Paula residence as per advice. However, officers reveal that the CM has called for important files to be cleared. “He asked us to start sending files from yesterday itself,” an officer, requesting anonymity, said.
A top bureaucrat said, “You can’t keep this Chief Minister out of action for long time. For him work is worship and when I say that I mean it. And I think all Goans would agree on this.”
Information further reveals that no officer met him today but files were sent to him. “We have got a message now that he would resume office from Monday,” said another officer.
Meanwhile, with restrictions on usage of mobile phones, Parrikar is interacting with bureaucrats through his core team.
