PANJIM: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Goa has demanded that the Regional Plan 2021 that has been opened for corrections should be sent to village gram sabhas for public participation.
Addressing the media on Saturday, NCP vice president Trajano D’Mello said, “First of all the Regional Plan has been opened in December, which is a festive month and it has been kept at the district level. We demand that the plan be sent to the villages for the people’s participation.”
D’Mello said that BJP government has pushed up the Regional Plan in a very undemocratic manner and termed it as a ‘mahagatbandhan of corruption’.
“BJP, when in opposition demanded public participation, which was necessary, and now they are least bothered about the public. Goa is heading towards an environmental disaster under this government,” D’Mello said.
NCP further demanded that the concept of eco tourism zones, inserted by the previous government at the last moment, should be scrapped. They have also demanded a ban on filling of paddy fields and low-lying areas and hill cutting.
NCP said there is urgent need of incorporating the 72nd and 74th amendment in the Town and Country Planning Act by which people’s participation can be officially recognized in special planning.
