MARGAO: Will the Health, Food and Drugs Administration and the Margao Municipal Council take a close look at the Margao KTC canteen catering mostly to the needs of KTC drivers and conductors?
An inspection of the canteen premises located in the KTC depot laid bare the poor hygiene at the place. Meals were being served in a room which was not clean and tidy. The meals were prepared in a kitchen under unhygienic conditions. That’s not all. There was seepage of rain water right in the kitchen where meals were being cooked. The rooms where the raw materials were being stored and the vegetables cut were maintained in an unhygienic condition, while the staff employed in the kitchen was without proper clothing. The canteen walls are craving for a white wash, while the toilets were found in an unsanitary condition. The KTC rest room meant for drivers and conductors certainly deserved better facilities.
Says GOACAN Co-ordinator, Roland Martins: “Things seems to have not improved a bit from the last inspection carried out in the KTC canteen and rest room in 2010. The agencies should ensure that the canteen contractor follow the safety laws as prescribed by the DFDA and FSSAI”, he said. Taking serious cognisance of the conditions in the canteen, GOACAN has called on the DFDA to protect the interests of consumers by taking necessary steps so that a solution may be found by Aug 15.
