PANJIM: Retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and former Governor of three States Ved Prakash Marwah passed away at a private hospital in Mapusa town, on Friday.

Marwah, who breathed his last at a private Hospital, had also served as Commissioner of Delhi Police. He was laid to rest with full respects by the Goa Police at Siolim, on Saturday.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and officiating Director General of Goa Police Jaspal Singh among other officers paid their last respects to the veteran at the crematorium. The State police paid shraddhanjali and Guard of Honour, and floral tributes were laid by the CM and Goa Police as well as on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Central ministers, Delhi Police, National Security Guard and others.
“Paid final tributes to Ved Marwah, IPS, former Governor of Jharkhand, Manipur and Mizoram and also former Commissioner of Delhi Police. His service and contribution to the nation will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” Sawant said in a post on Twitter.
Marwah was admitted in a private hospital in Mapusa, almost three weeks back after he had a fall at his residence in Siolim where he lived with his family. He passed away around 7.30 pm in a private hospital.
Marwah served as Governor of Manipur (1999-2003), Mizoram (2000-2001) and Jharkhand (2003-2004). A former IPS officer, Marwah, has held responsibilities as Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Director General of National Security Guard and Adviser to the Governors in Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar.
He also wrote the book “Uncivil Wars: Pathology of Terrorism in India”. Marwah was on the Governing Council of the Asian Academy of Film And Television.
The Goa Police has termed the loss as a loss to the nation. “A dynamic and honest personality, extremely sensitive to the public, a cop with a heart. Ved Marvah, IPS, was like a rock that weathered many storms. In the aftermath of the 1984 riots, he led Delhi Police through some of its most testing times. His integrity and dedication was unparalleled which helped in crucial assignments as Advisor to the Jammu and Kashmir Government and later as Governor to the three States. Never a man to rest, he remained active in the public domain till the very last days and was a guiding light to all the officers who looked to him for guidance. His loss is a loss to the nation,” the message circulated to the media reads.
The official Twitter handle of Commissioner of Delhi Police S N Shrivastava also mourned the death.
Former chief election commissioner S Y Quraishi expressed shock at Marwah’s death.
The IPS Association and NSG also took to Twitter to mourn the death of the veteran officer.
