MARGAO: After their recent victory over East Bengal, Salgaocar appear to have regained their confidence and look fully prepared to add further three points when they face Shillong Lajong in a 13th round I-league match at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Wednesday.

Salgaocar, with their astute coach Karim Bencherifa in total command, will look at the match as the perfect opportunity to kick off the New Year on a highly positive note.

“We have just not been able to get into the groove this season. I am sure by now everything is set and the team is into the top gear. The 4-0 win against East Bengal has  boosted the morale of the players. However, we  need to guard against Lajong,” remarked Karim.  “We need points and the visiting team needs points also. So, it’s going to be an interesting match.”

Salgaocar will be without midfielder Biswajit Saha (red card), Gilbert Oliveira, Marcus Mascarenhas and Anthony Barbosa (injuries) but have enough bench strength. Captain Luciano Sarbosa will return to the squad.

Salgaocar will rely on foreign recruits Edeh Chidi and Ryuji Sueoka for goals while Tomba Singh, Francis Fernandes and Rochus Lamare will be the main force in the midfield.

Lajong coach Prathyum Reddy knows that it will be a tough going tomorrow. “I am aware of Salgaocar’s strength. They played very well against East Bengal. They have a very good strike force which we need to contain. But we are confident of picking three valuable points.”

Reddy will miss his top scorer Lalhlih Thakara due to an injury
