PANJIM: Notwithstanding uncertainty over Lusofonia Games, Goa police is going ahead with its scheduled training for 3000-odd police force including officers who will be deployed during the games.
The department’s special team has shown urgency to ensure rigorous security arrangements for the games even as the local authorities are battling to complete the infrastructural facilities to host the nine-day event.
“Various physical and behavioural skills training will be conducted as per the schedule,” Chief Coordination for Lusofonia Games Cell (Goa Police), SP Vijay Singh said while speaking to Herald.
While firing practice will be held at Firing Range at Maulinguem in Bicholim; venues for frisking, contingency drills, response to fire related incidents (in coordination with Fire and Emergency Services), and other rehearsals will be decided shortly.
Crucial session on behavioral management for the police will be conducted by a faculty from Goa Institute of Management next month.
The Cell having its office at Altinho has already appointed officers to head teams to plan elaborate security indoor and outdoor stadium. At 11 venues ~ six competitive and five non-competitive ~ four teams headed by superintendents of police and deputy SPs have already been formed.
SP Singh said venue commanders and deputy venue commanders are periodically conducting inspections of their respective venues for security. An exhaustive on-the-job training program will also be carried out wherein personnel and officers will be taken to the games venues to familiarize them with the schedule, location and other related aspects.
