CALANGUTE: Opposition panchas have complained about ‘irregularities’ in the Anjuna-Caisua panchayat and have petitioned the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP) to suspend/stop implementation of controversial resolutions passed by the panchayat.
In a letter to the DoP, Panchas Suhasini Govekar, Sheetal Dabholkar and Sandip Chimulkar have alleged that the agenda for the meeting circulated by the panchayat secretary does not carry full details like construction license files, etc.
“The panchayat secretary has been circulating agendas of the meeting without proper details and does not write minutes of the meetings,” states the letter.
“Details of applicants for occupancy certificates and no-objection certificates are also not provided by the panchayat secretary. Various construction files are also being rushed through without any discussion,” stated the letter.
The panchas have urged DOP to suspend/stop implementation of resolutions passed illegally and direct the panchayat not to issue construction licenses.
When contacted, Sarpanch Pratima Govekar said the panchayat has been following the same procedure for the agenda for the last several years.
Deputy Sarpanch Savio Almeida claimed that opposition panchas have alleged irregularities in the agendas out of frustration. “If we have done anything wrong, they can get information through RTI or other authorities and besides, there are courts to get justice,” said Almeida.
“The panchas have been regularly seeking information of the meeting through RTIs. We have also installed CCTV in the sarpanch’s office as a precautionary.” added Almeida.
