PERNEM: Keri is one of the pristine beaches in North Goa attracting famous personalities along with some of the top-notch film producers, directors, etc. However, lack of basic infrastructure such as washrooms, changing rooms is forcing many tourists to keep away from this tourist spot.
The location was once upon a time famous for the panoramic view of the trees, sea and Tiracol Fort. It was one of the best shooting destinations for many film producers. The situation has changed drastically. The retaining wall built to stop sand erosion has turned out to be a white elephant.

The beach has not lost its beauty, and the tourists are charming in the photogenic location. One of the major reasons for tourists turning their back to this beach is lack of basic amenities. The toilets and changing rooms that had fallen apart on May 16, 2021, are yet to get a facelift. Tourists who visit this beach are forced to relieve themselves in the open, making it uncomfortable for others.
The retaining wall which was constructed by spending Rs 22 crore on the Keri-Tiracol beach has developed cracks at various places, the stones have fallen apart and the toilets built nearby are in dilapidated condition and unsuitable for use. A neglected garden nearby, that once attracted tourists and locals, has become a grazing ground for cattle.
The locals have demanded that the authorities come out with a constructive solution before the end of tourist season.
When the reporter contacted the local MLA Jit Arolkar to know the status of the changing rooms, he assured to look into the matter and solve the issue at the earliest.
