Dempo squeeze past Vasco

VASCO, AUG 21 Dempo Sports Club kicked off the season on a winning note scrapping past Vasco Sports Club via the tie-breaker 6-5 in Goa Football Association's Charity Match at Tilak Maidan on Saturday. Dempo led 1-0 at the breather.

Dempo where Valeriano Rebello, Nicolau Borges, Covan Lawrence, Cavin Lobo and  schoolboy Myron Fernandes were prominent showed good maturity as the team dominated the first half.
The Vasco goalkeeper and defender Queterio Pango’s blunders put Vasco down in the 5th when Nicolau Borges pounced on the lapses to give Dempo the lead.
In the 19th minute, goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimanni came to Dempo’s rescue when he punched out a power-packed shot from Thomas.
Vasco took over as the game progressed and Dempo were lucky in the 84th when a close header from Donald Rocha missed the post by a few inches.
A minute later, Christopher Borges struck the equaliser off an Aniket Jadav corner kick.
In the tie-breaker, Godvin Franco, Valeriano Rebello, Debabrata Roy, Joe Rodrigues and Roy Colaco scored, while Donald Rocha let down Vasco in the tie-breaker. Goalkeeper Milagrio Medeira, Prajot Naik, Bazileo Rego and Jose Colaco made no mistake to strike for Vasco.
Chief guest, Pune Football Club coach Derrick Pereira, who missed the GFA Golden Jubilee celebration was presented with a memento by Vinod Parkot as he was among the ten legendary players who were shortlisted.
