Opposition worries over easy availability of drugs

PORVORIM: Opposition MLAs on Monday urged the Goa government to curb the drug menace along the coast. Leaders raised serious apprehension over the easy availability of drugs even in the villages and in college campuses.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said that on the one hand the government is saying there are no drugs but they are freely available in discos.
Canacona MLA Isidore Fernades said drugs are freely available in villages and even at college campuses in areas like Canacona. He demanded an anti-narcotics cell for Canacona stating it is a major tourist destination.
Fernandes mentioned that even a murder accused is on record stating that he had had drugs in restaurants.
Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao too joined the discussion over drugs and said it is a threat to society. He said there is need of the support of all the members of the House to stop the drug menace.
