PANJIM: Ahead of the partial closure of the Dona Paula jetty, the Electricity Department has been asked to snap power supply to the portion of the jetty that will undergo major renovation work in the days to come. The North District Collector has ordered closure of the jetty from November 5 to ensure safety of the citizens.
As a part of its elaborate plan comprising various agencies, the district administration has also directed proper signages around the site, deployment of security staff, traffic arrangement, etc to ensure neither the work is hampered nor the public are put to inconvenience owing to the upcoming project.
“Various agencies and departments involved in operation maintenance of the jetty and surrounding areas are directed to take effective steps to implement this order of closure. The Corporation of City of Panjim will arrange to erect adequate signages displaying the information regarding this order of closure of jetty portion starting from NIO circle and at all other important locations and route up to the jetty,” the order issued by North Collector Levinson Martins states.
The authorities are also asked to deploy adequate barricade to prevent entry of any person in the closed portion of jetty so as to avoid any untoward incident which may occur due to the danger of the jetty collapsing. “The CCP and Superintendent of Police (Traffic) in terms of the government decision shall ensure proper relocation of the existing vendors at the Dona Paula jetty site without causing hindrance to traffic until the redevelopment of the jetty is undertaken,” it states, adding, “Electricity Department should ensure disconnection or removal of power supply to the closed portion of the jetty and elsewhere to prevent any untoward incident.”
Imagine Panjim Smart City Development Ltd, which is undertaking the re-development of the jetty, will arrange to deploy adequate security near the entrance of the closed portion of the jetty and elsewhere to ensure total compliance of the closure order and that no visitors or any person is allowed to enter barring those on official duty. Any person or agency violating the order are warned by the Collector of facing punishment under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
