CANACONA: The State government’s dictates to its employees to clean their offices for two hours on October 2 as part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat campaign could very well jeopardize the happiness of many government servants in Canacona. The functioning of all the government offices will come to a grinding halt and will remain shut from October 2 to 7.
There are four public holidays in October this year and three of the holidays are on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Dushera (October 3) and Id-Ul Zuha (October 6) and along with weekly off’s on Saturday (October 4) and Sunday (October 5), which gives long holiday break of five continuous days. Besides, Diwali holiday (October 23) is the fourth government holiday in the month. Many government servants are believed to have planned holidays either to their native places within the State and neighbouring districts of Maharashtra and Karnataka, besides Kerala, while others are reported to have planned four nights and five days weekend outings at some holiday destinations with their families, after deciding to take a day off on Saturday.
