A 36-year-old woman from the Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh declined to bury her dead cat, choosing instead to keep it by her side for three days in the hope that it would revive before she took her own life, according to her family. The woman reportedly hanged herself in Mohalla Kot Hasanpur on Saturday night. She had a history of mental health issues and had received treatment for her condition in Moradabad. On Wednesday night, around 10 pm, the cat’s tongue became discolored, and it passed away approximately 45 minutes later.
The mother of the deceased stated that her daughter had not indicated any intention to take her own life. The grieving family has resolved to refrain from keeping any cats as pets in the future. According to family members, the woman had adopted the cat nearly two years prior and had cared for it as if it were her own child. Following the cat’s death, she was overwhelmed with grief, they reported. She held a belief that her cat would return to life. “I informed her that nearly three days had elapsed, and it was time to bury the cat, but she did not respond. She remained silent and composed”, her mother recounted.
