No lead in Mapusa murder yet

Mapusa Police on Wednesday interrogated a number of persons in the neighbourhood of Albert Luis (70), who was shot dead at his rented house at Duler-Mapusa on Tuesday afternoon.
Police, who had registered the case as murder, is yet to make any arrest. Though police have claimed that they have interrogated many people in the neighbourhood of the retired teacher, they have not got any vital clue that might help them nab the killer.
When contacted, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sammy Tavares said investigations are in progress and they expect to make some headway soon.
“We are probing the murder from all the angles. The mobile phone of the deceased is missing and the bullet has been fired on Albert Luis’ temple from a close range,” he informed.
“His relatives are arriving in the State on Thursday and the post mortem has been conducted. His body will be handed over to his relatives on Thursday,” added DySP Tavares.
Some police officials speculate that the murder may have taken place due to personal animosity.
“The accused knew that Albert’s daughter leaves for college in the morning. Since the door was found opened, it is evident that the deceased must have opened the door on hearing the bell,” said police sources.
“The killer may have been known to Albert, who used to give tuitions in his house and would go for walks in the evenings,” added a police official.
