Ponda civic chief ousted

Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chairperson Pradip Naik was voted out of office, after the no-confidence motion called against him was passed by 7-0 votes.
Naik had barely completed five months. Earlier, Sanjay Naik, Venkatesh Naik and Shailendra Shinkre served as the chairpersons.
The voting was conducted by raising of hands, where only seven councillors present out of 13 raised their hands in favour of the motion.
The proceedings were conducted by Chief Officer Shivaji Dessai. Outgoing chairperson Pradip Naik, Deputy Chairperson Vincent Fernandes, Councilors Dikshya Mayenkar, Shivanand Sawant, Damu Naik and Rukmi Dangui did not attend the no-confidence motion.
Councilors Sanjay Naik, Venkatesh Naik, Shailendra Shinkre, Radhika Naik, Adv Vandana Jog, Dinkar Mundaye and Kishore Naik were present and voted in favour of the motion.
It may be recalled that majority of the councilors from the ruling panel had called for the no-confidence motion claiming that councilors were taken into confidence by the chairperson.
It is learnt that the 13-member PMC has 10 of its members in the ruling bench.
According to sources, Sanjay Naik, Venkatesh Naik, Shailendra Shinkre, Dinkar Mundaye, Kishore Naik, Damu Naik, Shivanand Sawant, Dikshya Mayenkar, Vincent Fernandes and Pradip Naik forms the ruling panel, while Radhika Naik, Rukmi Dangui and Adv Vandana Jog in the opposition.
