PONDA: Ponda Civil Supplies Department on Wednesday took custody of the rice and wheat bags from the fair price shop allegedly involved in the black-marketing of rice at Curti-Ponda last year.
It may be recalled that acting on a complaint from the Civil Supplies department, police on November 2, 2012, arrested Sachin Naik and two others in this connection.
The Civil Supplies Department later cancelled the licence of the fair price shop at Azordem-Borim, operated by Naik. Following cancellation of the licence, the food grains remained in the store and Directorate of Civil Supplies finally asked its Ponda unit to take custody of the material.
Civil Supplies Inspector Apurva Karpe carried out the activity and shifted rice weighing about 750 kilos and 80 kgs wheat to its godown at Curti. The condition of the food grains is not known.
After the State government transferred the case to the Crime Branch, the investigating team on June 28 handed over 243 rice bags (each weighing 50 kilos from the godown) to the Civil Supplies Department Ponda.
Earlier, the Crime Branch team had handed over about 358 rice bags (each weighing 50 kilos from the truck) to the Civil Supplies department Ponda, which the department disposed at controlled price after FDA verified quality of the rice.
Rice bags were handed over to the Civil Supplies department following the directives of the Additional Collector North Goa.
