CAVELOSSIM: Down by a first half goal, SCC Cavelossim Veterans fought back valiantly in the second half to beat St Michael Orlim Veterans 3-2 to enter the semi-final of Nazazinho Memorial Veterans Soccer, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at Fr. Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim, on Saturday.
Orlim Veterans drew first blood in the very fifth minute when a throw in taken by lanky Minguel entered the Cavelossim goal when keeper Rosario Monteiro failed to tip the ball over the bar.
Orlim continued their domination but Alcino and Rico failed to score some easy chances.
Cavelossim forwards Jana and Charles Rodrigues did not convert either some easy chances provided by Raju Cardozo.
Crossing over, Cavelossim got the equaliser when Jana Da Costa crossed the ball to unmarked Lon Rebello who gave a first time pass to Raju Cardozo who scored with a deft shot to the top corner of the goal.
Charles Rodrigues playing upfield in the penalty area scored a brace to put Cavelossim in the driver’s seat with the score reading 3-1.
Orlim fought back when Minguel scored his second goal when he headed in a corner kick well taken by Stanley.
SCC Cavelossim will now take on Seraulim Veterans in the first semis on June 28 while Benaulim Veterans will clash with Varca Veterans on June 30. The final is slated for July 3.
