A formal enquiry has been launched after a viral audio clip surfaced, allegedly capturing a po lice official from Valpoi Police Station demanding bribes in exchange for preferred duty postings. Superintendent of Po lice (North Goa), Rahul Gupta, confirmed the de velopment on Tuesday, stating that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness. The audio recording, which has rapidly gained attention on social media, purportedly features a Duty Master from Valpoi Police Station soliciting a monthly payment of Rs 1,500 from fellow personnel in return for postings at the Keri–Sattari out post along the Goa–Kar nataka border. The officer allegedly implied that those willing to make the payment would be fa voured for assignments at this strategically important location. “An enquiry has been initiated in this matter. Based on the outcome, disciplinary action will be taken,” the SP said.
The Keri–Sattari out post is a critical node for regulating cross-border movement and enforc ing transport-related laws, making it a highly sought-after posting. Such postings are often linked to opportunities for unof ficial income, a persistent challenge plaguing law enforcement agencies na tionwide. This latest controversy casts a harsh spotlight on alleged corruption within the police force and raises serious concerns about the transparency of inter nal duty assignments. The timing is particu larly damning.
