VASCO: In a major breakthrough, Dabolim airport police arrested Abdul Matin Fakki, a suspect in the 2011 Mumbai serial blasts, shortly after he arrived by flight at the Dabolim airport.
The Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrived in the State by a special flight on Tuesday and after seeking a transit remand from a court, took custody of the accused and flew back to Mumbai.
According to sources at Dabolim airport, the Anti Terrorist Squad from Mumbai had issued a look out circular against Fakki of Bhatkal-Karnataka and a resident of Dubai, for his alleged involvement in the Mumbai serial blasts.
Sources informed that Fakki had arrived in a flight at Dabolim airport on Monday morning and during immigration check, the immigration officials detained Fakki and after conducting investigation, handed him over to Dabolim airport police.
Sources further informed that after detaining Fakki, the immigration officials contacted the ATS at Mumbai and informed them about the detention of Fakki.
Sources said Fakki was arrested on Monday and was kept at a safe custody inside the airport. He was produced before the JMFC at Vasco and was remanded for two days police custody on Tuesday.
Sources further said the ATS arrived in Goa by a special flight on Tuesday and after taking a transit remand from the court flew back to Mumbai.
The accused, Fakki, is suspected of having passing money to Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal through the Hawala network to help conduct the 13/7 serials blasts in Mumbai. The serial blasts had killed 26 people.
Fakki is reportedly the aide of Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal.
Bhatkal, a resident of Bhatkal-Udupi in north Karnataka, is accused of carrying out terror attacks in Pune, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
In his confessional statement, Bhatkal had stated the details of the blasts carried out by him and his associates in various places in the country to avenge the 2002
Godhra riots.
