PANJIM: After a prolonged dry-spell, Goa received heavy showers during the last two days, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recording 1.6 inches of rainfall in the State in the last 24 hours.
The total rainfall this season has touched 108.95 inches, IMD said and forecast that rains will continue for a few days more. “Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Goa during the next five days,” said IMD.
Friday’s rain was a small percentage from what is expected during the next two to three days, with heavy rains forecast even in Mumbai.
The rains, though did not disrupt normal life in the State, but IMD has predicted heavy showers in the State till September 21. IMD confirmed that fisherman will not be affected on the Goa Coast.
In the past 24 hours Panjim, Valpoi and Mormugao received 4 cms, While Ponda, Dabolim, Margao have recorded 3 cms of rain. On the other hand Pernem, Old Goa, Canacona, Quepem and Sanguem recorded 2 cms of rain in the past 24 hours.
Friday evening also saw some roads slightly flooded due to the continuous rains and many places in the capital were water logged.
