PANJIM: Police stations across Goa including the Crime Branch conducted 18 raids targeting matka bookies wherein 18 persons were arrested for illegal gambling activities, on Friday.
The crackdown by the 16 police stations along with the Crime Branch resulted in the seizure of almost Rs 19,000 in illicit funds across various locations in the state. The simultaneous crackdown on gambling raids conducted by various police stations across Goa in a single day has sparked concerns and raised eyebrows within the community.
While the Mormugao Police Station in two raids seized Rs 10,400 and arrested two persons, the Crime Branch raided a bookie in Curchorem and seized Rs 2,530. The Margao Police conducted raids at two places and seized Rs 2,280, while the Saligao police conducted a raid at Grande Morod and seized Rs 1,510. Ponda Police conducted a raid near Kirti Hotel and seized Rs 1,300.
