VASCO: The Customs and Central Excise officials at Goa airport on Sunday detained a passenger hailing from Bhatkal in Karnataka and seized Rs 4.76 lakh, all in Rs 2000 denomination from him. Customs also seized foreign cigarettes worth Rs 1.5 lakh from three Keralites.
According to Customs officials, a total of four seizure were made by them on Sunday early morning. ” In the first incident, a passenger from Bhatkal was trying to board Air Arabia flight (G9-492) to Sharjah. However, on suspicion, we checked his in-baggage and found that he had concealed 238 notes of Rs 2,000 denominations in a neatly packed”.
“Similarly while our officers were screening the passengers on their arrival, they found three persons (all from Kerala) who had come down from Dubai moving in a suspicious manner. During the check of their baggage, we found foreign cigarettes worth Rs 1.5 lakh. The cigarettes have been confiscated and a probe has been initiated,” Customs sources said.
