Goa Public Forum meet

Margao: Former PWD minister Churchill Alemao, under the banner of Goa Public Forum, has organised a public meeting at Lohia Maidan, Margao at 4 pm on May 1.

The event is a protest against the environment clearance to MOPA airport, the doubling of tariffs, the censor board for tiatr, and the misrule of the State government. The forum will also demand official status for Roman script in Konkani and grants to English-medium primary schools.
While speaking to the press, Churchill stated that the people of MOPA did not want the airport as they would lose a lot of agricultural and scrub land. He informed that it would plunge South Goa into an economic crisis as the district was already reeling under heavy losses from the mining ban.
Other forum members highlighted the role of tiatr in the progress of the State and concluded that a censor board for it was ill-conceived. They also claimed the government was not serious about supporting English-medium schools, and demanded immediate and unconditional grants to them. They also condemned the government for the large increase in water and electricity tariffs.
