PANJIM: The Old Goa Police have registered an offense against the panch of St Cruz Village Panchayat Lawrence Marcelline Rodrigues, for allegedly forging documents to obtain caste certificate.
According to the complainant Ganesh Chodankar, Rodrigues forged the bona fide certificate and produced it before the office of Deputy Collector (Tiswadi) to obtain OBC caste certificate that would help him contest the panchayat elections in ward number III of St Cruz village.
Following a preliminary inquiry, the Old Goa police registered an offence under sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police sources informed that they would summon the panch member for questioning along with the required documents.
