Addressing the media, the Association’s general secretary Sudip Tamankar said that in the last three months, the cost of fuel has increased by Rs 9 hitting the running costs of commercial vehicles and buses, and the entry fee on Goan vehicles that was notified on May 14, 2015, will create ‘havoc’.
Condemning the administration and the government, Tamankar said that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar should take the responsibility for the mess at the toll booths on June 1, especially since he stated in the media that he was not aware of the imposition of entry fees.
“The entire matter of issuing the notification should be investigated by the vigilance department, because, the way PWD handled it is not proper,” Tamankar said.
In the last two years PWD has collected Rs 50.91 crore from three toll booths out of five. Tamankar asked why PWD is trying to earn more revenue by imposing taxes that will lead to price rises in all commodities.
“It is injustice to bus operators as we are paying a huge annual road tax and monthly passenger tax. What else does the government want to squeeze from us?” Tamankar asked.
