CANACONA: A Tata Ace vehicle carrying scrap goods caught fire after hitting a signboard post at Karmalghat in Canacona on Saturday.
The vehicle carrying scrap plastic crates and other scrap material while negotiating a curve hit a signboard post on the shoulder of NH-66 at Karmalghat near Canacona. As it hit the metal sign board post and veered off the road, the vehicle caught fire due to short circuit.
The driver and cleaner of the ill-fated vehicle escaped from the cabin before the entire vehicle was engulfed in fire. The Canacona fire office was immediately alerted and the fire was doused saving property worth Rs 2 lakh. The fire office said the total loss in the incident was around Rs 1 lakh.
The fire team lead by sub-officer Mahadev Lolienkar was comprised of fire fighters Costatin Colaco, Vivekanand Naik, Ganesh Naik, Chandrahas Pagi and Sandesh Gaonkar.
