PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that Goa would get representation in the Union Cabinet once BJP-led government comes to power in Delhi after the Lok Sabha 2014 elections.
Addressing media persons, Parrikar said that at least one amongst the BJP Member of Parliament would be awarded Cabinet berth in the Union government.
“Congress has failed to give cabinet berth to Goa in its tenure. Now, when BJP comes to power, we will have ministerial berth for the State,” the chief minister said while announcing the 60th birthday celebration of BJP senior leader and North MP Sripad Naik.
BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha polls is likely to be Naik for North and Narendra Sawaikar for South.
Parrikar stated that informally BJP state unit has already announced the names, while the formal announcements on the candidature would be made later after party’s parliamentary committee clears the names.
Chief Minister announced the schedule for civic reception of MP Naik slated to be held on October 18 on the occasion of his birthday. Party’s national leader Venkaiah Naidu would be the chief guest for the function to be held at SAG ground. BJP Goa desk in-charge Smriti Irani would be also present.
“On that occasion we would be wishing Naik to get a strong position at the Centre. We would be wishing his success in the polls,” Parrikar said adding around 15,000 people are likely to attend the function.
