CALANGUTE: A hut in Calangute was reduced to ash, late Tuesday evening. The hut was the dwelling place for the Rekha Palyekar family which lost goods worth of more than Rs 50,000. The fire broke out at around 9.30 pm. According to sources, the fire broke out while the family was out of the house. The locals initially tried to put off the fire but later retreated on realising that gas cylinders were inside. The Fire Station was alerted but they could do very little as the fire had already done the damage. The fire tender could also not reach the site due to narrow roads.
