That is why one sees the graves of the rich being decorated in fancy metal and marble work while those of the poor could be just a mound of mud.
The Bible says that we are made of dust and to dust we shall return. So why do we have graves in Goa that in a way depict the financial position of the dead even in the graveyard? Of course some parishes in the state have taken steps to see that all the graves are uniform with no fancy attachments and decorations. In western countries all the graves in the cemeteries are same. This adds to the serenity of the final place of rest. Due to their financial status people may consider themselves unequal in life but in death all are equal. The church in Goa should see to it that all parishes have graveyards with graves which are uniform. This will pass the message to the faithful that even if in life we were unequal, in death we are all equal.
