PANJIM: The State government is soon to begin checking inter-state vehicles at the entry points to ensure its occupants are not repeatedly stopped by the Traffic Police until their return.
Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on Wednesday called upon Chief Minister Pramod Sawant seeking intervention into complaints that tourists are being harassed by traffic police.

“The Traffic Police have been stopping the outstation vehicles time and again till their stay period in Goa. To stop them from being harassed, CM has decided that vehicles from the neighbouring states will be checked at the entry points and given permits valid until their return,” Ajgaonkar told reporters after the meeting at CM’s official residence at Altinho.
In the absence of documents in Goa-registered rental vehicles, the minister warned of action against the owners of rental cars and bikes. “The tourist using the rent a bike and/or rent a car without required papers will not face penalty instead the vehicle owners will face action,” he said.
Ajgaonkar said the decisions taken at the meeting will soon be implemented.
The government will deploy additional 200 IRB personnel along the coastal belt to ensure safety and security of tourists.
