MARGAO: Officials of the Goa State Bio-diversity Board and other agencies conducted an inspection of the controversial housing project at Cavelossim on Tuesday.
The inspection was carried out upon a complaint lodged by the Cavelossim Villagers Forum, alleging rampant irregularities in the housing project. Besides the Bio-diversity Board, the inspection was carried out by officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board and Agriculture and water resources department.
After the inspection, Member of the Bio-diversity Board Celso Dias said necessary action, if any, will be initiated based on a report submitted by the agencies. “The Bio-diversity Board has observed certain things during the inspection. But, we will wait for the other agencies to compile their reports and place the same before the Board for necessary action’, Dias said, while declining to divulge the observations noticed during the inspection.
A representative of the Goa State pollution control Board Digvijai Desai said that a detailed report on the inspection will be prepared and sent to the Bio-diversity board for further action.
Incidentally, Gonsalo Rodrigues representing the Water Resources Department, conceded that no action has been initiated against the housing project based on a report compiled by its officials in February. He, however, said the report has been forwarded to the WRD higher ups for necessary action”, he added.
President of Cavelossim Villagers Forum Irish Passainha reiterated that the project has come in violation of the prevailing CRZ and other rules. “The villagers will fight the battle till the end”, he said.
The Administrative in-charge of the real estate developer, Benjamin Charles, however, maintained that the project is being executed with the necessary approvals and permissions.
