With Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Culture having spewed venom from his belly against the Holy Quran and Holy Bible, now more skeletons will fall out from the cupboard thus opening the Pandora’s Box to its fullest.
As he [Mr. Sharma] says, I also respect the Bhagvad Gita as a sacred book of Hinduism, but not Ramayana and Mahabharata as they are two great epics of Indian culture. There is nothing divine or holy in them. But I presume that the Upanishads and the Vedas are holier and former being the holiest of the two. [If I am not mistaken}. One thing is very difficult or may be very easy to decipher, as to why this controversy is surfacing only now, when the BJP is at the helm of affairs. Or is it because they are given a mandate to rule in the 2014 election by 125 crore people of India?
Decades have passed and much water has been flown down the Ganges, [the river Ganga] that all Indians used to live in relative peace and harmony with all the major and minor communities alike. Then suddenly exploded the bomb and that too during the reign of BJP in the form demolition of Babri Masjid thus inciting trouble between the Muslims and Hindus, both expressing sentiments, the Hindus claiming that the place was, where Lord Ram was born and hence called Ram Janmabhoomi, where they wanted to build the Ram temple in honour of Lord Ram. The Supreme Court has played neutral and has held the case in limbo, but still strong sentiments are held by both parties. Our Bharat Mata was and is the cradle of civilization where diversity perfectly blends with unity, along with multiple languages and seven prominent religions all given equal footing by the Indian Constitution, a right to practice the religion of one’ choice without intimidation and coercion.
But why now only during the BJP rule the dragon is about to devour all those professing faiths other than Hinduism? Hinduism is an ideology and a way of life. If I am not mistaken I remember reading the news paper many years ago, one PM [sorry I can’t get his name right or else I would mentioned here] said sternly that all Christians should go to Europe, be it Portugal, the Great Britain or any of the European shores. This type of comments only incites communal riots and disharmony and creates animosity which is going to ruin the secular fabric of our great Democratic Constitution.
