PONDA: Ponda Police busted two gangs involved in several theft cases and recovered stolen goods worth Rs 6.30 lakh.
According to Ponda Police, one gang was involved in highway robberies, while the other gang was involved in two-wheeler thefts including mobile shop burglaries.
Police have so far arrested five persons including a minor and recovered six two-wheelers, 65 mobile phones, a computer and two harddisks, all worth about Rs 6.30 lakh. Police have also attached a van.
Police informed that the three-member gang involved in highway robberies was busted on Saturday, which led to the arrest of two more accused. The accused were remanded to seven days police custody.
With these arrests, three mobile shops burglaries and highway robberies reported in Ponda have been detected and police are verifying six more cases of two-wheeler thefts.
The three accused have been identified as Salam Rajasab Sayyed (21) from Curti, Suleman Akbar Muzzawar (25) from Dattagad-Bethora and Gaus Pak Immannudin Zamadar (25) from Bethora.
“They have confessed to the crime,” informed PI C L Patil.
The arrest of these three persons led to the arrest of two more persons involved in two-wheeler and mobile shop thefts. Police arrested Venkatraman Hungeri (20) from Nagamasjid-Ponda and a 17-year-old from the same locality. The minor has been sent to Apna Ghar at Merces.
“During investigation, two more names came up who had supplied mobile phones to the three accused arrested in connection with highway robberies. Interrogations revealed that the duo had committed thefts in three mobile shops in taluka. The accused were also in possession of six stolen two-wheelers and have confessed to the crime,” informed PI Patil.
